The leader of the party Together for Serbia and Sabac Mayor, Nebojsa Zelenovic, again invited the Mayor of Belgrade Zoran Radojicic to a television duel on the public service (the state Radio Television Serbia – RTS), in which they would present to the citizens the expenses for the reconstruction of the main square in Sabac and Republic Square in Belgrade.

“The Republic Square in Belgrade is smaller than the Sabac one, and it was paid for 25 times more, an incredible 12 million euros, even though you are still hiding the final figure. You owe it to the Serbian citizens to explain how this is possible. “We both owe an explanation to the public of how and why the reconstruction of the larger square in Sabac was completed in 75 days, while the reconstruction, with the additional reconstruction, of the Republic Square has been going on for more than 400 days. This is about spending public money and you cannot hide the truth. As more and more time goes by, you are increasingly suspicious”, stated Zelenovic in an open letter.

Zelenovic reminded that, according to the Law on access to information to public importance, he had asked for the complete documentation relating to the reconstruction of the Republic Square and that he had filed a complaint to the Commissioner since this information, contrary to the law, was not submitted to him.

“A couple of days ago I asked of RTS Director Dragan Bujosevic to organise yours and mine TV-duel on the public service, for us to explain all to the citizens. Bujosevic is also silent, and he has been saying for years that ‘it is not Serbian to keep quiet”. Do not even imagine, Mr. Radojicic, that everything will be forgotten in time and that you will, by keeping silent, avoid the obligation to submit an account to the citizens. For the state officials the saying ‘Silence is Golden’ does not apply, even though your slabs on Republic square cost as if they were made of pure gold”, Zelenovic added.

The Mayor of Sabac called upon his Belgrade colleague to stop with the silence and explain to the whole of Serbia why the renovation and reconstruction of Republic Square cost so much, even though it did not undergo any essentially major work, and also why the capital city has been in a state of collapse for more than a year. “Perhaps it is not your fault, you do not indeed have any connection with Republic Square, but then you must tell us who does and who is responsible. This is what the law states that you should do. Inform Bujosevic that you are ready for a TV-duel, put him also out of his misery. He has received my letter and now he doesn’t know what to do, he doesn’t know whether he dare organise a TV-duel, and it is possible that he does not even know whom to ask”, wrote Zelenovic in a open letter to his colleague the Belgrade Mayor.

Radojicic is a doctor by profession, but he “sold” his reputation by taking part in the campaign for Belgrade elections of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). It is believed that, in place of Radojicic, all the strings in Belgrade’s (shady) affairs are pulled by his deputy, Goran Vesic, who has succeeded to, in a matter of several months, practically ruin every task which he began.
